Barrel of Candy Cake

I was so excited to finally make this cake. It was our friend Diane's birthday at work so we wanted to make her something special. She really loves M&M's and ladybugs.

Anyone can make this cake, even if you aren't a cake decorator. First you bake a round cake and fill the middle with whatever you want.

The next thing to do is to ice the sides of the cake. I used chocolate because I thought it would be least likely to show between the Kit Kats.

After the sides are iced, you press the Kit Kats on in two's. Do this all around the cake.

Now you can put the M&M's inside. If you are going to refrigerate the cake, I would put the M&M's in before you serve it. I found that after putting the M&M's in the fridge, they got wet from condensation and turned a dull color.

Pick any ribbon you want to tie around the Kit Kats. You can even find something more masculine and plain if it's for a guy.

Enjoy!
